From the iconic Uluru to the mystical landscapes of the West MacDonnell Ranges and the hidden gems of the East MacDonnell Ranges, this 5-day photography tour is your opportunity to capture some of Australia's most breathtaking and dramatic desert landscapes.

With the expertise of award-winning photographer Cam Blake, and in collaboration with World Expeditions, we’ll explore the outback in a way that no one else can. This tour is designed not only for photographers but for anyone who wants to experience and photograph the timeless beauty of the Red Centre — the spiritual heart of Australia.

  • West MacDonnell Ranges & Earth Sanctuary Night Tour
    Explore stunning waterholes, the rare Black-footed Rock-Wallaby, and the beauty of the desert sky. Marvel at the Milky Way in one of the darkest spots on Earth.

Fitness Level Required

  • Low to moderate fitness: Some short walks, gravel paths, and stairs. Most locations are easily accessible, but a base level of fitness will help you enjoy the experience to its fullest.

What’s Not Included

  • Accommodation: Prior to the start of the tour in Alice Springs
  • Airfares: To and from Alice Springs or Uluru
  • Travel Insurance: Please arrange your own insurance
  • Camera Gear: All necessary photography equipment (please see "Equipment Required" section below)
  • Sleeping Bag: If you wish to hire one, book at least 14 days prior to departure

Itinerary:

Guests are required to be in Alice Springs for a 9am departure on Day 1 - 12th July.

Day 1: Departure Alice Springs 9am for West MacDonnell Ranges & Earth Sanctuary Night Tour
Kickstart your adventure with a visit to Simpsons Gap and Standley Chasm before relaxing at our exclusive eco-comfort camp. As the night falls, enjoy an astronomy tour at the Earth Sanctuary, where the Milky Way lights up the desert sky.

Day 2: East MacDonnell Ranges & Sunset at Rainbow Valley
Head to the East MacDonnell Ranges, stopping at Trephina Gorge for incredible photo opportunities. Later, witness the stunning sunset at Rainbow Valley before setting up camp under the stars.

Day 3: Rainbow Valley Sunrise & Transfer to Uluru
Capture a breathtaking sunrise at Rainbow Valley, then travel to Uluru, where we’ll watch the iconic sunset transform the monolith into a stunning array of colours.

Day 4: Kata Tjuta - Valley of the Winds Walk & Field of Light
Embark on the Valley of the Winds Walk at Kata Tjuta, followed by a visit to the immersive Field of Light exhibition, a breathtaking display of lights across the desert.

Day 5: Uluru Sunrise & Base Walk & end tour in Alice Springs in late afternoon. 
Wake up early to photograph Uluru at sunrise, then complete the iconic Base Walk around the rock. This is the perfect ending to your Red Centre journey, leaving you with unforgettable images and memories.

Tour will conclude in Alice Springs on Day 5 approximately 4-5pm - 16th July.


Equipment Required

For a successful Red Centre photography experience, you'll need:

  • Good walking shoes or boots for the terrain
  • Camera gear: A DSLR or mirrorless camera with lenses suitable for landscapes, wildlife, and wide-angle shots.
    • Recommended lenses: A wide-angle lens for landscapes and a telephoto lens for distant views and wildlife.
    • Tripod: Essential for astro-photography sessions and capturing Field of Light.
    • Circular polarizer: A polarizing filter is highly recommended for the best landscape shots.

What to Carry

You’ll carry a small day pack (approx. 5-8kg), containing:

  • Camera gear & personal items
  • Water (1-2L)
  • Snacks for the day (provided by guides)
  • Sunhat, sunglasses & sunscreen
  • Waterproof and warm layers (for cooler mornings and evenings)
